What are you? Some kind of fuckin "minty mint" nazi?
The boxed ones are so fucking awesomely mint you'd jizz yer y-fronts.
Been in the boxes since I bought em for 1.50 each in Preston in '86/87(?).
BUT!!!
They're hollow shells......toys that have never been played with.
Never been used as enemies of Mego Knights or allies to Little Big Man.
They may be pristine, but lack the stories the other figures you scoff at have enjoyed.
And the Batman suit was Guy's idea. It makes sense really, as the other two had cloth jumpsuits, but the Torg was just stuffed on a Muton.
YES, I DO have a Muton body for it, it's under the suit!
You mean these boxes?

Love the fighting furies. The Ghost of Captain Kidd is an awsomely cool toy when it glows in the dark (hmm, must get one sometime).

So you visited Greenways in Plungington Road in 1987 when they were selling off all the old stock. I come from Preston and as kid Greenways was great as you could pick up all the cool toys that were out of stock/not made anymore. It was run by Mr Greenway (no suprise there), who was a nice old bloke. The 1987 sale hapened after Mr Greenway died. I remember the shelves full of Cyborgs and Mutons, loads of Action Men including Captain Zargon. However I still kick myself as I only bought Androids' Annihilators, some cybonators and an Action Man Panzer Captain uniform (bit skint at the time). By the time of the sale Greenways was quite well known to toy collectors in the North West. I remember discussing it with a bloke who used to help out in your ex-mates' shop in the corn exchange. I'd also mentioned it to "Spacer" Mike Parry at a Westminster Central Hall Comic Mart, this was a few years before the sale, he hightaild it up north and bought up a load of stuff.

Picked up a lot of Hornby Battle Space in Greenways, as well as a Zeriod long after they'd gone off the shelves, and in the early 80s I got a spaceman by Mattel in a non-descript brown box, who was really Major Matt Mason.

I'm with you on the mint toy thing. While I buy mint toys (I also buy broken bits and pieces) I usually think the mint ones must have been owned by kids who wanted them, but when they got them never played with them, or who got them as presents but didn't want them in the first place. That said I'm thankful there are mint ones about.

Yea, Greenways!
What a place!!
Took a lot of detective work to actually find Plungington Rd.
This was BEFORE Google etc.
Had to get a Preston phone book, then a Preston A-Z. Got the train (Preston had a lovely station!) then we walked to Plungington Rd(quite a hike!).
When we got there it was like Christmas!
Me and my mate Paul were just grabbing everything we could!
We took our haul to the counter, and the sales girl got her calculator out, added everything up and said something like 24.68 or something.
Paul says, "Are you sure, I think it's more than that"
She says, "Yes, we're having a sale so everything is half what the price sticker says".
Me and Paul's eyes bulged! We said "Hang on, we're gonna buy more stuff then!" And so we did!!!
Happy days...........................................
And we're deffo on the same page with mint stuff. I DO have quite a few boxed items, but knowing that some kid somewhere actually PLAYED with a figure really adds to it's character!

Ja, Ich bin ein minty mint nazi. Are you trying to sell me some Toy Story Two philosophy that an MIB toy is unhappy and a beaten-up, played with toy is fulfilled? I beg to differ! My toys get crammed like sardines into glass cases (standing room only, elbows almost touching) but occasionally selected ones are allowed out to act in one of my psychedelic photostories, and there can be no better life for a toy!
Greenways sounds amazing; I've never come across anything like that past or present. The only rare toy shops I have known charged full whack for everything, provided they know what it is, and most of them are gone now the internet is here.

Yea, the internet is a double edged sword.
ANYTHING is available now, but it's just so easy (if you have the money).
Nothing beats the rush of walking past a shop and glimpsing something
hidden on a shelf inside.
A good example was Marriots in Birkenhead. I was walking home past it one day and noticed an Action Man uniform in the window, so I stepped in.
He had shelves of Action Man, Evel Knievel, Marx toys, Lone Ranger all just sitting there!
He even had an old Aurora Model Kits display!
Quite exciting!
Don't get that feeling doing an "Ebay Search"!

YOU GOT THEM FOR 1.50 EACH!
Who would have guessed Preston had such cosmic bargains!
Anybody ever bought anything cool from Blackpool?
That was like plastic Mecca for me as a kid.
But i can't actually remember ever buying anything that cool there.

Last time I was in Blackpool (about '95) it was pretty thin pickings.
I remember Southport having a radio controlled tank game that had original 60's Action Man tanks
as the obstacles!

Don't think you'll get much in Blackpool, even the cheap tat nowadays isn't what it used to be. Not like the tat we used to get as kids, that was quality tat.

The Greenways sale was a once in a life time event. After they sold all the old stock they moved to a smaller shop across the road selling prams and baby toys, then closed after a few years.

Actually, Pramland of Leigh was another good find.
Nothing major tho', just an old toy shop that had leftovers from the 70's in there.
