This is from a series of three funny rubber costumes that Takara produced for Henshin Cyborg in the Ď70s. I donít think the series of three has a name but the others are Apollo Z (sometimes called Aporoid Z) and Rock Baron S. The designs are quite weird and I think they have a slightly Victorian sci-fi feel. I always liked the look of Apollo Z the most, but he didnít come up on Ebay yet and this one did. Shine X didnít disappoint me when he arrived, though. He is nicer than he looked in the pictures I had seen.

Itís quite a fight getting the costume on, even with a hairdryer on hand to heat the vinyl. The legs are a single piece, which has to be pulled on like pants; this was the hardest part. I wouldnít want to be a kid trying to take this on and off regularly in the course of play. Mind you the same was true of the Denys Fisher stuff I did have as a kid and the vinyl heads all split eventually. But my point is that it was a wrestle, and Iím certainly not going to take it off again just to photograph the procedure.

Here he is from slightly above and you can see that what looks like a dapper little pork pie hat is actually a hollow backed crest thing.

What a face! The black portion in the middle makes him quite hard to photograph clearly. There is a slight hint of a nos. The mouth looks as if he is amused or even laughing. I like the rivets Ė nice touch Ė and the telescopic ears! The eye slits looks meaner when viewed from above and more sympathetic when viewed from below.

Here is the belt, bearing a mysteious insignia. I think the belt is the same on the three figures. Can anyone illuminate me as to whether it signifies anything? The belt holds the whole costume in place and its positioning is crucial.

The boots are worth a close-up, each with itís own little engine and couple of springs. Presumably he can run fast and jump high; only it wouldnít really work, would it?

In the back view you can see that the costume bulges out under one arm instead of sitting flat. You can see the inner Cyborg through the gap.

This is about as far as you can go posing the figure. The head is a separate piece and swivels, and you can just about bend the arms inside the rubber so that they stay in place. But posing the legs and pelvis? Forget it! Thereís no way this suited figure could sit or ride a Cyborg Rider motorcycle.

Is he from a TV series, or just an original design? I love his badass head and face! Is there a back story?

So you say the pelvis is just immobile? And after all that struggle getting his pants on, he's going to get gangrene in his scrotes from them being so tight!

Good Review! I have always wondered what these guys look like up close. I could never tell if the suit was the figure or if you were to put the suit on the figure. Nice catch!

Nice score, and thanks for the review. I still say he looks like he's wearing a trilby, though.

maybe you can find the smallest cyborg body to use with this suit.
even a female body might fit better and allow for better posing.

you don't have to tell anyone...
it could be OUR little secret~

p.s.
GREAT pics !!!
