I just got this book yesterday:

most of you guys probably know what this is already.

to those who don't, this has a ton of pictures of CYBORG, WALDER, and many of the costumes and mid 90's MEDICOM releases.

what would you think of having a thread or photo-guide-section with photos from here? i would gladly scan the book and post the whole thing, as the pics are nice. all the different vintage figures, costumes, vehicles, and color variations. We could do it chronologically and of course those with the Denys stuff would add those bits, and i know you guys have been talking about a review section, perhaps this would be a good start?

for what it is, i paid a fair price but i know some out there in cyborg land may have/will pay double the price for it without knowing the contents... and there is no "real" guide in english, except to NHC and a few vintage pieces.

good idea? bad idea?

i had someone at work check this out when one went up on ebay a few weeks ago, according to some japanese database, its out of print.

...plus it stops at around 1997, so no NHC, or reissues or 99 stuff, there's a bunch of medicoms like devil man, cyborg 009, harlock, etc.

it may be a bit before i can scan/crop everything, as i am a bit busy now with my music, it being summer and all, but i promise as soon as possible.

where should i post it? perhaps in the cyborg general section?

Does anybody know anything about copyright stuff? I wonder if there's a way we could get permission to put some of this up...

that's true, i didn't think of that. Sad i don't want anyone getting in trouble!

i wonder if they'd care, as the book is so sweet, i couldn't really see anyone not buying it because the photos are up here, its pretty toy porn a la SUPER ROBOT #1. if anything, i'm sure over time folks seeing it would be psyched to hunt one down!

before i post pics, is there anyone who knows japanese? maybe there's a way we can get in touch with Takara or Medicom and ask. i wouldnt have the slightest idea as to how to go about this.

Contact the publisher and you should be able to get permission as the book is out of print. You will probably need to list the legal line (Title, author, publisher, city, year) and any photo credits put that should be only once on each page. If your going to publish that many pictures I would suggest dedicating a web page or three rather than stuff it inside a message board thread.

You know, the worst thing that can happen if you just put it online is that you get a letter asking you to remove it, at which point you remove it! I'd double check that with someone whose better acquainted with law, but that's what I understand from some questions I've had to ask relating to my movie.

I've actually been working on a similar project, cataloging all the Cyborg stuff (that book isn't even close to showing it all, not even just the costumes) on my own website, with straight on shots, plus side shots and descriptive text about each costume and the character its based on. These will be all original photos.

I think you should do the book thing though on this site, it would be a great resource. The book is definitely worth picking up.

Maybe later this weekend i'll put together a more comprehensive list of books/magazines worth picking up as reference material for the vintage and repro Cyborg stuff. You really practically have to have a library of reference material to even come close to knowing the full line, and even then it doesn't cover everything. Only the grey matter between our collector ears knows some of this stuff.

Is your site live yet? What's the URL

I have the initial design and framework in place, but no content yet. But the site is out there. Of course its been in this state since January, so who knows how long it will take me to start getting content going! I have taken a lot of the necessary photos, so now its just a matter of getting the time to put it together.
